Kayhi Lady Kings Beat Juneau Againby Dave LiebenThe Ketchikan Lady Kings Basketball team lost one of their key players early in the game on Saturday, but still managed to eke out another home win over the Juneau-Douglas Crimson Bears, 62-51. Ketchikan was leading 3-0 when sophomore guard Laci Effenberger was carried away on a stretcher with a knee injury. Her team members did a great job in her absence, however. Kalli Kline and others did an excellent job bringing the ball upcourt, and senior Kristen Peterson, playing her last home game, hit some clutch three-pointers. Ciara Patton, Alexis Edwardson, Kathleen Reno, Molly Ortiz, and Crystal Blair also stepped up their game in Effenberger's absence. Kayhi opened a double-digit lead early in the game, but Juneau battled back to get within four points with plenty of time left in the second half. The Lady Kings forced some Crimson Bear turnovers and hit some clutch baskets to pull further ahead, and knocked down several cruicial free throws in the last couple minutes. |
